Are you for real?
Yeah, teach them that they can smoke all they want and get sick and then feel better in an hour. No big deal. Give me a break! I'd definitely be talking to the teacher. If they were trying to relay a message about peer pressure and lying, they could have done it in a more tactful, age-appropriate way. I don't know how the rest of the book goes, but judging by that much of it I wouldn't let my kid read it.
Now I'm really curious to see what happens. You're a fantastic mom and you will handle this the way that is best for your kid.
Wow. Just wow. There are no words....on second thought...
Ditto Hilary. First graders are not mature enough to get that. Period. I would be going to the teacher and expressing how disappointed I was in her receiving that as reading material. What happened to "The Safety Kids"?
I would DEFINITELY talk with the teacher!!! Holy cow! That is NOT cool! I have a first grader and I know she wouldn't get that!
What's up with this teacher? Does she not get the way that young kids adsorb what they read? This is pretty messed up, the next book will be based on drinking at a young age...all you have to do is drink until you throw up then you'll feel just fine;)
